Land of Nuclear Enchantment : My first solo gallery show
Land of Nuclear Enchantment

This summer I took a road trip to my old stomping ground in New Mexico. Along the way I toured some of my favorite places including Los Alamos and shot photos of some beautiful scenery as well as cool nuclear equipment. I have put together a show that includes a juxtaposition between the lovely natural wilderness and the cold technology that has been a key part of the nuclear weapons industry that is peppered throughout said wilderness.

All of the photos were creating using an HDR / Tone-Mapping process and have been printed with my Epson Stylus Pro 3800 on Ultrasmooth Fine Art Matte paper which has an estimated archival life of over 100 years.

The show will be taking place at the Niche Video Art gallery (although there will be no video involved) and the opening is on Thursday during the Downtown Art Walk between noon and 9pm. Please come down and take a look at the prints if you get a chance! Here is the address:

Downtown Art Ride - The Opening Tour
I've decided to do something a little bit different with the Downtown Art Ride route this month. Being that we never make it to all the galleries, and that the route hasn't really changed much in the last few months, we will only be visiting galleries that are having openings that coincide with the Art Walk / Ride. There happens to be 9 galleries that are having openings, so that gives us a little over 20 minutes at each gallery. Here is a google map of the galleries we will be visiting which include: Art Murmur, LACDA, Regent Gallery, DLANC Outreach Center, Crewest, M.J. Higgins, Gary Leonard studio, 626 Gallery, Infusion. We'll see you today at 5pm at Art Murmur, bring your bike, a light, a lock and a helmet.

May Art Ride Photos
This month's Downtown Art Ride didn't have quite the turn out as the last two rides, mostly because I didn't promote it anywhere other than Midnight Ridazz... and even there I didn't upload a map or put up any new information. I will do a better job promoting it next month. Either way, we still had a great time. After the ride we headed back to The Regent to check out the closing act of Persee, which did not disappoint.

April Downtown Art Ride - NEW MAP!!!
I want to start this post off with a very special thank you to Eric Richardson and Cartifact for donating the excellent map for the Art Ride once again. Eric went out of his way to craft a great map for the ride and Cartifact very generously donated their wonderfully detailed Downtown map for use on the Downtown Art Ride.

The Downtown Art Ride takes place every second Thursday to coincide with the Downtown Art Walk. The ride starts at Art Murmur gallery on 6th and Main and we try to make it to all of the other galleries in Downtown. If you're interested in joining us on the ride, just show up at 5:00pm at Art Murmur. Bring a bike, lock, and light and optionally, but highly recommended, a helmet.

I will be riding with my camera and photographing riders and artists, you can see some samples from the previous art rides here. There will also be a recent film school grad shooting a spec commercial to promote bicycling in Los Angeles for her director's reel. Shouldn't interfere with the ride much though. We had a really great turnout last month and I've already have a few people email me about this month, so it should be a fun ride. I'll see everyone tomorrow!

Map You can download the new map here: Downtown Art Ride April 2007 Map [244KB jpg].

The Art Ride will be taking place this Thursday. I have been tied up with work and projects and haven't been able to lead it for the last few months. There will be a new route and possibly a new map, which will be on this site shortly. I hope to see you all there!

September Downtown Art Ride
September was a good ride, there were a few galleries that weren't on the map, that we stopped at anyway, so like usual we didn't quite make it to all the galleries, but we tried! Thanks to everyone who made it out. The complete gallery can be found here. Some selections from the ride:

Robert Reynolds

Jeremy Kenyon Lockyer Corbell

Brian Stotesbery

Overton Loyd

August Art Ride
The August Art Ride was a great success. We have 13 people on the ride, more then we've had in the past and we made it to more than half of the galleries. At the end of the ride we witnessed a band called Trash Band play on the corner of Los Angeles and 6th. Here are some of the photos:

Downtown Art Ride for July
I am getting married this Sunday, but the Downtown Art Ride will go on! Eric Richardson will be leading the ride, and it will start at the usual time and place, 5pm at the Downtown Art Gallery. The maps in the previous posts should be mostly current although I am not sure if there will be a stop at the Fine Arts Building, as last month there was no gallery there. Have a great ride and take some pictures for me!

April was a good month for our Art Ride, the weather was beautiful and we actually had 3 fixed gear riders on the ride! I tried to take photos of every artist that was showing their work and I think I covered most of them that were present. You can check out the whole group of photos here. Here are some selections:

Ride Out with your Bike Out
Do you have a bike? Do you find yourself sitting in your car going insane, dreaming of being on two wheels rolling around the concrete jungle? Have you ever wanted to just ride around town and see some art or push your pedals with hundreds of other cyclists? Well if you answered yes to any of those questions you should grab your wheels and head down to one of the group rides that is taking place tomorrow and Friday night. Tomorrow is the Downtown Art Ride which Eric Richardson and I started about 6 months ago. The ride coincides with the Downtown Art Walk and we try and make it to all the galleries on the walk except the Library and the MOCAs. Bring a lock (actually we're trying to have somebody out front watching bikes) and a helmet along with a light and your drinking shoes as most of the galleries have free booze.

Then on Friday night is Los Angeles' largest group ride, Midnight Ridazz. The theme this month is ¡Viva la Revolución! ¡Viva la Virgen de Guadalupe!.

New Maps for the Art Ride
It has been about a month since the last Art Ride and some new galleries have been added to the route. Eric took the time to update the route and the map that the company he works for, Cartifact, was cool enough to let us use. You can download the map here in PDF [1 MB] or JPG [595KB] form. You'll see that we have added a note about spending only 10 minutes at each gallery. If we spend more time than that we will never make to to all the galleries on the route. See you at 5pm on Thursday at the Downtown Art Gallery.
